The Industry These days the internet is a common site in any household, and all the help and fun it provides is everyday life. It seems to bring the world to your front door. It isn’t that long from when the internet was created, it’s only about 40 years. In such a short time it grew into the world largest place to find information and to just spend time. But the internet also has a darker side which plagues entertainment industries all over the world. And that’s called internet downloading. Downloading movies, music etc. from the internet is easy and nowadays fast as well. This has provided a way for millions of people to share and download music and such from other people. People might not see it, not now or not tomorrow, but in due time the effects will start to spread. The largest effect in due time might be that bands and singers no longer are able to make music, because all the money the get from records starts to fall away from their hands. The simplest reason and so far one of the only reasons I've heard from a person when asked about downloading music is that the person doesn’t have the money to buy the CD because its so expensive. Well, wonder why they cost so much? Well, a theory might be that when people download it and don’t pay, it starts to create losses for the company which has to lift the prices in order to make it worth it. Also another reason I've heard is that the artist doesn’t care about the money, they do it because they love it, they'd continue it even if they wouldn't get the money. This is 50-50 the truth, since I also believe that the artist doesn't care that much about the money. But they also have a mouth to feed. Buying their CD gives them the reward they deserve after making music. Also, I don't think your musical creativity is at its best after working a full day because you can't get the money to feed yourself from music. The movie business doesn't gain such losses from downloading movies, since going to the movie theater to watch the latest hip movies is still a strong part of our culture. But to some areas of visual entertainment suffer a lot more. One of these is anime. Anime is still in the first parts of it long journey to reach the heights of the western society, but eventually it might just get there. The industry is still young, but seems to go pretty strong already. Already the anime industry doesn't make that much money in the west and the continuous downloading of series will decrease the amount. But I don't believe the industry will suffer so greatly, since they still have the huge masses back in Japan and areas near there. Remember; your actions have an impact. Sure, you might not see it directly tomorrow, or the second you make the choice, but in the long-term it does - a single act can improve or worsen the situation. |
