Ai Yori Aoshi

The series tells a beautiful story of two people, finally meeting each other and how they love each other. The story tells about Kaoru Hanabishi and Aoi Sakuraba who were set to marry each other as they were kids but never saw each other after that time. So later in life Aoi goes to look for the love of her life with only a note with an address she got and travels to find Kaoru.

The story is a very deep expression of true love, the kind you’d want to have your self. It has some comedy in it, but deep down is only about the love between Kaoru and Aoi. As the comedy is set in the background as just small happenings, comments and embarrassing moments, you don’t seem to notice it as the story is so beautiful. The expression of how Aoi truly loves Kaoru is something so beautiful, it will bring anyone to tears. As you watch the series you seem to get a bit jealous of Kaoru as he is surrounded by beautiful girls who all seem to love him, but all in all the other characters and their feelings were over-shadowed by Aoi and Kaoru, which wasn’t a bad choice at all. The other characters are there more as a comical relief to the very heavy and deep relationship that is between Aoi and Kaoru. All the comical moments seem to go around the side characters, which is a good way to every now and then get the focus off of the main story and make you laugh a bit.

When you look at Aoi as she has been brought up since childhood to be Kaoru’s wife, you can’t help but notice she can do every household chore there is. I got a bit jealous of Kaoru, since having someone like that loving you and doing everything for you with a big smile is something we all would like to have. When you watch the series and sink into the story, you start to feel a bit of the love that is shown, your heart beats faster and dreams hit your mind. As innocent and cute as Aoi is, you can’t keep her from your mind.

Kaoru’s past haunts him and he has wounds he has to heal from his childhood. As the story progresses, you learn more and more about his past as he tells it bit by bit to Aoi and every time he does it, Aoi falls into tears, that’s just how much she loves him and truly wants to share his pain. The past of Kaoru isn’t something that hasn’t ever been said, but it’s a bit different. The way they present it really makes you think that could’ve happened and in a way, feel bad for Kaoru.

The story is a love drama at its best, with a little comedy sprinkled on top. You really fall into it and you can’t stop watching it until you finish it. Rarely have I ever seen such a good love story, and as a not so big love or drama fan, the story was so touching that even I liked it. A must for everyone that loves a nice story about two people loving each other and fighting through hardship.
